Agra Palace win Best International Restaurant Award

Nuneaton News, Friday, October 2, 2009
DELICIOUS food and high quality service helped a Nuneaton restaurant retain a prestigious award.
Staff and the dishes at the Agra Palace in Nuneaton impressed judges so much that once again they scooped the title of Best International Restaurant at the Coventry and Warwickshire Food and Drink Awards 2009.
Owner of the Abbey Green-based eatery, Jamal Ullah, went along to the ceremony to pick up the award at the Ardencote Manor Hotel.
The Agra Palace was awarded joint first place in 2008 and thanks to consistent good food and customer service it beat the rest of the nominees to win first prize.
The judges said of the restaurant: “Agra Palace is a contemporary restaurant based in Nuneaton and was a worthy joint winner in 2008. As part of the 2009 mystery visit, our judges noted consistent standards of hospitality and service and a commitment to ongoing refurbishment – as evidenced by a new facia and signage and a remodelled bar area.”
“During the incognito visit, food quality was found to be consistent and flavours and textures within the dishes well balanced. Our judges also commended the manager’s ability to ascertain guest requirements and his pro- active recommendation of suitable dishes. All in all a deserving winner”.
Jamal Ullah was delighted with the win, he said: “I am so happy to have won, after coming joint first last year, and I am especially pleased with the hard working, loyal and professional staff.”
Councillor John Waine, sustainable communities portfolio holder at Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council, added: “I’m delighted that Agra Palace has won this prestigious award. The restaurant is known personally to me and in my experience, it is richly deserved. This award is a boost not just to Mr Ullah and the Agra Palace, but also the economy of the town. It is fantastic that in a time of recession one of our businesses is holding its own and leading the way. Well done Agra Palace”.
